ResPorts
Enhancing the Resilience of Greek Ports
The main goal of ResPorts is to innovate and enhance port authorities,
and the scientific community regarding the impacts of climate change on port infrastructure
and, more generally, on shipping and transport.
Ports are irreplaceable nodes of transport networks and supply chains, especially for the Greek island regions.
Damages to infrastructure and operational problems do not only affect transportation but also have domino effects on other sectors of the economy.
ResPorts is aligned with the research priorities of the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (NASCC).
The project focuses on understanding the impacts, developing/improving vulnerability assessment models, and creating protocols for selecting improved climate change adaptation measures.
The ResPorts project offers a positive outlook by providing solutions and tools to mitigate the impacts of climate change on maritime operations, by focusing on four key areas:
- Standardizing and expanding information
- Raising public awareness about the implications of climate change in the maritime sector
- Εstablishing a collaborative network among academic institutions, research centers, and maritime stakeholders
- Conducting comprehensive vulnerability assessments; identify and predict potential future damages, laying the groundwork for preventive measures
Research and application of innovative technologies in ResPorts will help in the design and implementation of adaptation measures in the Regional Adaptation Plans to Climate Change.
