The University of the Aegean was founded in 1984 and, having completed the second phase of its development, with 17 Departments, 15 Postgraduate Programs and 1Elective Study Program, ranks among the largest Universities in the country. The administrative headquarters of the University of the Aegean is Mytilene, while Schools and Departments operate today in the island cities of Mytilene, Chios, Karlovasi, Rhodes and Ermoupolis, forming a University – Network that covers all the Prefectures of the Aegean. The main characteristic of the Departments of the University of the Aegean is the development of new fields of knowledge, usually interdisciplinary, which respond both to the needs of modern Greek and global society, as well as to the demands and expectations of its students for studies of high scientific value, in combination with excellent prospects for professional advancement.

The participation of the University of the Aegean in the “ResPorts – Strengthening the Resilience of Greek Ports” Project is implemented by the Department of Shipping and Business Services in collaboration with the Department of Oceanography and Marine Biosciences.
